Our Tibetan Rugs making process
1. Wool Sorting & Washing:
Tibetan wool is sorted to pick out foreign material and other form of dirt to ensure quality product. The wool is then properly washed to remove excess fats and wax.
2. Wool Carding:
Wool is carded to produce slivers for spinning yarn. Like wool sorting and washing carding is also done by hand with the help of unique hand carding traditional tools.
3. Spinning:
From the carded wool yarn is spun by hand on simple traditional spinning wheels. Our expert spinners can spin yarn for various thickness of yarn for various carpet qualities of knots.
4. Dyeing:
The natural white yarn is then dyed according to the desired color. Traditionally dyeing is carried out manually using vegetable dyes. But for better dye quality, color fastness and broader color ranges we also use Swiss Chrome synthetic dyes.
5. Weaving
Carpet weaving basically involves knotting woolen yarn in to cotton warp which is carefully fixed on a loom. As a skillful knotting activity, it is performed with the help of an iron rod. Design graphs and sketches are used to incorporate the carpet design into the knotting process. The process involves highly developed skills of craftsmanship.
6. Trimming:
After finishing weaving, the designs and patterns are carved out with scissors. The entire surface of the carpet is also clipped with special clipping scissors to give the carpet a luxurious look.
7. Washing:
Right after trimming and clipping, the carpets are washed as part of finishing process to remove dirt and dust and to give them a lively look. Carpets are washed manually maintaining an eco-friendly environment.
8. Finishing:
One final checking of the trimming and the overall look of the carpet is carried on. Uncarved patterns are carved, unplucked dirt are plucked and finally sent for packing.
